Simulation of Centrifugally Driven Convection in Jovian Inner Magnetosphere Using the Rice Convection Model

The dynamics of the Jovian inner magnetosphere are dominated by centrifugally driven convection. We use newly developed Rice Convection Model-Jupiter to simulate interchange instability and plasma transport in (L < 20 RJ). model explicitly incorporates active Io source its related pickup effect. A series runs performed parametrically investigate how ionospheric conductances rate affect convection system. Simulation results show that iogenic is transported outward form elongated fingers. outflow radial velocity quasi-steady state increases with further distances, reaching a value over ∼30 km/s at L = RJ, general higher than inflow. It found can be significantly affected conductance rate. larger Pedersen or lower produces slower inflow/outflow less prominent corotation lag throughout magnetosphere, while angular for inflow always near zero not affected.
